Impressive results in the restoration of the imbalance in the straightening of the skin (“gaps”), on the face or the body, are provided by the modern methods of Plastic – Aesthetic Surgery. Wrinkles, tissue, fat or even bone deficits are completely and permanently restored, whether they are congenital or acquired.

“The “gaps” on the face can be purely aesthetic in nature and are likely to be due to the passage of time, such as wrinkles, or to the great loss of weight and the loss of skin and subcutaneous tissue, which can create a deficit in the cheekbones, cheeks or lips. However, they can also be present from birth or be caused after a trauma or a severe form of skin disease or acne (scarring). After serious injuries, even a bone deficit may occur, such as in the nose or cheekbones”, says Dr. Anastasia Seferi-Daniil, MD, PhD, Plastic Surgeon at HYGEIA Hospital, member of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery ( HESPRAS).

The restoration can be either aesthetic or functional or a combination of these. Functional problems mainly concern the nose, cheekbones or lips.

In all aesthetic problems, such as wrinkles, loss of the oval of the face, fat in the lower part of the eyelid, tension in the cheekbones or volume in the upper arms and lips, as well as in scars and burns, there are two therapeutic options: her method lipotransfer (fat tissue and stem cell transfer) and the injection of different density hyaluronic aciddepending on each region.

“In recent years, the trend is to use fat for “filling”, especially in cases where there is an “indication” for removal from one point and injection in another. In this way, two or more problems are corrected at the same time, thus reducing the cost of multiple interventions. The fat is now obtained with a specialized method, in order not to destroy the fat cells, it is subject to special processing and special placement. With the new techniques, the duration of the effect is extended and can even reach more than a year”, explains Dr. Seferi-Daniel and adds:

“In cases of “gaps” in the zygomatic arch or the chin that “recur” after the use of fat or hyaluronic acid, the restoration is done with the use of artificial implants. These minor operations are carried out in the doctor’s office, with local or no anesthesia, depending on the case.”

“Vacities” in the body

In the body, the problems are usually more extensive. Someone may be born with anisomastia (different size between the two breasts), or develop dimpling from cysts, scarring from surgery, or deficits from trauma during life.

“Breast reconstruction, either due to unevenness or due to tumor removal, or due to trauma, is done by lipotransfer or implant placement. The result of lipotransfer is not permanent, however, there are now techniques that can maximize its duration, which can reach up to 12-14 months, depending on the damage. However, even if the largest amount of fat is absorbed, the damage will be less obvious than it would have been if no intervention had been made. The same methods are applied to scars and wounds anywhere on the body. The restoration is invasive and is done in a hospital environment, under intoxication or general anesthesia,” concludes Dr. Seferi-Daniel, noting, however, that minor problems are restored with hyaluronic acid injection.
