According to a new study, Mediterranean diet known as vegetable nutrition style reduces the likelihood of dementia by about a quarter, even in people with genetic risk.

Scientists have previously conducted research showing that the Mediterranean diet helps maintain mental health in the elderly.
The new study, published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal BMC Medicine, took previous findings a step further.
Examining the health data of more than 60,000 older adults, the researchers followed them for 9 years.
Participants filled out questionnaires at regular intervals, participated in oral interviews and passed certain analyzes.

According to Independent Turkish’s report, approximately 17 out of every 1,000 people were diagnosed with dementia in these 9 years, among those whose diets were the most distant from the Mediterranean diet.
Among those whose food choices are most similar to the Mediterranean diet, only 12 out of 1,000 people have dementia.
It was stated that 882 out of 60,298 participants in total developed dementia symptoms during the study period.
Oliver Shannon, a nutrition and aging expert at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, said:
“The main message of this study is that even the likelihood of dementia in individuals at higher genetic risk can be reduced by the Mediterranean diet.”
People close to the Mediterranean diet generally eat less red or processed meat, according to Shannon, who was also on the research team.
They also avoid sweets, pastries, and sugary or sweetened beverages.
Other important ways to reduce the risk of dementia, according to experts, are as follows:
