The percentage of people, especially men, who choose to use technology to satisfy their sexual desires and urges is high. A study of young Swiss people showed that 78.6% of them have cybersex at least every month. Some try it for pleasure and others to be able to deal with their negative mood.
People who choose it are either for sexual satisfaction, entertainment, and enhancement of arousal, or they choose it to manage stress and frustration, relieve boredom, as well as depressive symptoms and low life satisfaction.
More specifically, cybersex, i.e. the use of the internet via a computer, laptop or mobile phone to engage in sexually gratifying activities, including pornographic material and the exchange of sexual messages, was studied in 5,332 young men who presented themselves at recruitment centers Lausanne (French speakers), Windisch and Mels (German speakers). Their average age was 25 years.
The study, published in the Journal of Behavioral Addictions, was independent of military procedures: recruitment centers were used to inform and enroll participants, but they completed their questionnaires outside of the military context. A total of 5,516 men (73% response rate) completed the questionnaire, but 184 respondents (3.3%) were excluded.
According to the results, cybersex is mainly chosen by people with a higher educational level, possibly because this population group has knowledge of the technology that gives them access to the internet. It is more popular among homosexuals and bisexuals than heterosexuals.
And it seemed to be of more interest to those who are not limited to just one sexual partner. These categories were both those who most frequently engaged in Internet sex but also those who could acquire problematic behavior, that is, the use of the Internet for sexual reasons could become addictive or compulsive.
The personality traits of pleasure seekers are narcissism, but also the pursuit of sensationalism.
Previous studies have shown that cybersex is more often chosen by sexually active men who are not in a permanent relationship, in order to satisfy their sexual needs and compensate for the lack of sexual activity in real life, without this of course making their choice problematic.
It is also preferred by people who have free sexual relations with three, four or more partners in their real life. The profile of sex-specific internet users is characterized by a generally high level of interest in all things sexual.
Cybersex is also a way of maintaining long-distance relationships, a way of enriching the experiences of couples, whether they live near or far from each other. It is a way of fulfilling hidden fantasies, those that no one would dare to satisfy in real life relationships.
Whatever the reasons or intentions, whatever the characteristics of the users, cybersex can satisfy them all and in different ways. It includes both verbal and visual provocation, masturbation and the use of sex toys. The list of the latter is indeed long, its experts point out Sexopolis: provocative underwear, uniforms, vibrators, dummy, penis rings, anal dildos, sex machines can give unprecedentedly intense orgasms.
Recently, newer technologies have been developed that literally eliminate distances, since participants can control their partner’s game via app!
In cybersex everything is possible and safe – no sexually transmitted diseases, no infections, no worries, no risk.
But be careful: its excessive and uncontrolled use leads to serious social, personal and work problems, which are associated with symptoms similar to those of other addictions, i.e., persistent desire or unsuccessful attempts to control it, persistent and intrusive thoughts related to it the type of sexual approach, its choice of mood regulation, withdrawal symptoms, tolerance and other harmful consequences.
Online sex is a form of self-exploration. It’s certainly not to everyone’s satisfaction. But for those who choose it, it is fun and enjoyable.
