Since the cheating is secret, the person does everything possible not to arouse suspicion in their partner. The goal of the unfaithful partner is not to get caught and then not face the consequences for it and they try to make everything seem normal.

At the same time, people tend to draw conclusions about their partner based on their preexisting beliefs, says the psychologist Paul Coleman, Psy.D. So if you tend to be a trusting person, it can be easy to overlook the less obvious signs of fraud.

Keep the warning signs below. If you check just one, it may not be a sure sign of an unfaithful partner, man or woman, but if many on this list apply, it may be time to have a conversation with your partner.

1 Their schedule changes without good explanation.

2 They are suddenly unreachable.

3 They have a decrease or increase in libido.

4 Their friends don’t seem as friendly as they used to be.

5 Their phone habits are changing.

6 They suddenly pay more attention to their appearance.

7 They spend more time away from home.

8 What they say and what actually happens do not match

9 They no longer reveal details about their day.

10 They accuse “you” of fraud.

11 They start giving more gifts than usual.

12 Suddenly they are really critical of you.

13 The relationship issues you had in the past don’t seem to exist anymore.

14 They get defensive when you ask why certain things changed.

15 They press you to find out about your daily schedule.
